Autumn 1 - World War 2
Our topic for the first half of Autumn Term is World War 2. We will be focusing on using a wide range of skills from across the curriculum to support our learning.
We will be using a range of ICT equipment in Year 6. Due to the impact of COVID-19 on education in Wales and following the announcement by the Minister for Education that schools will close on 20 March 2020, the Welsh Government believes that it is in the public interest to ensure every learner in maintained schools in Wales has full access to Hwb. If you have any concerns or questions please come and speak to me.
It is so important that by Year 6 the children are more confident with their times tables. They are used daily in some way or other and your child will benefit greatly if they are encouraged to practise them regularly so they have a quick recall of facts. This can be done through writing them down, chanting them or playing games! There are lots of great games online that your child could benefit from. One of my favourite is Hit the Button created by Top Marks.
Try it for yourself!
Our topic for the Autumn term is 'Gwyliau'
We will be doing lots of work and challenging ourselves to use lots of past tenses and 3rd person sentences. Gwaith anodd!
We use Welsh as part of all our lessons and throughout the day, not just in Welsh lessons. The children love playing a range of games during the daily 'Helpwr Heddiw' sessions. Please see some of the sentences patterns below that we will be using in our lessons.
All children have a school email address and a Hwb account. It would be fantastic if they do any extra work at home, they could then email it to my account and we can share what they've done.
Due to the current situation pupils must bring their own snack in every day, if required.
It is so important that your child wears their school uniform to school every day. It has a number of benefits, such as your child feeling a part of the school community. We have a reward system in school called the VIP of the week (Very Important Pupil). Every class has a new VIP each week and they have earned the right to wear their own clothes to school and sit on the bench during assembly. It is a special week for that child and it is clear for the adults and visitors to the school to see who has been working hard. So, if your child is wearing non-uniform and they are not VIP, it will take away the special reward that the VIP has earned for that week.
Only trainers are required for PE. There is no need to bring in a spare change of clothes.
Homework will be changing in Baden Powell Primary this year. We will be setting homework on Class Dojo - the completed work can be uploaded to the pupils' portfolio. If you do not have access to Class Dojo please come and speak to me.
Due to the current climate reading books will be kept in class, so pupils can use these every day with their teacher. Unfortunately, these books can not be bought home at this time. However, you can use Oxford Owl to access free books at home.
