Croeso i Dosbarth 14!
Welcome to Class 14!
Thank you for visiting Class 14's web page! Here you'll find some information about our class.

Spring Term 2 - Europe
Our topic for the second half of the Spring Term is 'Europe'. We couldn't decide a specific country to focus on so we chose Europe so we can learn about a range of countries. There is also lots going on in the news about the European Union so we can find out what is going on. As usual, we will be learning about Europe in a whole range of areas of learning, not just in our topic work.
Independent Research Projects
This term we will be working in pairs on a project where we will choose a country and then create a powerpoint project presentation all about it. We will be doing our own research but we must make sure that we cover each of the areas of learning. At the end of the project we will share our findings with the class in an oral presentation. We are very excited about doing our project on the new electronic devices we now have available in school!
We are coming close to the end of our Lead Creative Schools Project with Sandra! The weeks have flown by and the children have had such great days, exploring new ideas and learning to work with others collaboratively. Our final show is on the 12th of April - Put it in your diary now! The show will start at 2.00pm, make sure you're not late so you don't miss the exciting start to our 'Panic on the Titanic - Escape Rooms'.
It is so important that by Year 6 the children are more confident with their times tables. They are used daily in some way or other and your child will benefit greatly if they are encouraged to practice them regularly so they have a quick recall of facts. This can be done through writing them down, chanting them or playing games! There are lots of great games online that your child could benefit from. One of my favourites is Hit the Button created by Top Marks.
Try it for yourself!
Our very own Tomas was the winner of the Tocyn Iaith last week! Ardderchog! He was making such an effort to try to the new language on the table cards and his efforts definitely paid off
Our new topic is 'Trefnu gweithgaredd' (planning activities) and we have been learning lots of vocabulary and using a range of sentence patterns. We will be learning how to plan an activity, for example, a trip to the cinema with friends! We will be able to recap lots of the vocabulary and sentence patterns we have learnt throughout school. In our Welsh books we have a 'Wal Graffiti' for each new topic and we can write and draw any words/phrases that will help us with our topic. We also have a mini 'Geirfa' to help us find tricky words in our own dictionaries.
Some sentence patterns we will be using:
Beth wyt ti eisiau wneud? (What do you like to do?)
Beth hoffet ti wneud? (What would you like to do?) Future tense
Hoffwn i chwarae rygbi. (I would like to play rugby.)
Dw i'n cytuno! Dw i'n anghytuno! (I agree! I disagree!)
Beth wyt ti'n feddwl o...? (What do you think of...?)
Yn fy marn i... (In my opinion...)
We use Welsh as part of all our lessons and throughout the day, not just in Welsh lessons. The children love playing a range of games during the daily 'Helpwr Heddiw' sessions.
All children have a school email address and a Hwb account. It would be fantastic if they do any extra work at home, they could then email it to my account and we can share what they've done.
Snack is £1 in the juniors. For that your child will receive snack every day.
It is so important that your child wears their school uniform to school every day. It has a number of benefits, such as your child feeling a part of the school community. We have a reward system in school called the VIP of the week (Very Important Pupil) Every class has a new VIP each week and they have earned the right to wear their own clothes to school and sit on the bench during assembly. It is a special week for that child and it is clear for the adults and visitors to the school to see who has been working hard. So, if your child is wearing non-uniform and they are not VIP, it will take away the special reward that the VIP has earned for that week.
P.E. is on Wednesdays. Please ensure your child has PE kit in school so they are able to participate safely. As the weather is changing please make sure your child's PE clothes are suitable to keep them warm if we are working outside.
We will give out homework on a Friday and it needs to be returned by Thursday. This will include spellings and a literacy or numeracy task and sometimes a topic related research task.
We would be very grateful if you could work with the children on their homework tasks. Your support at home is a huge help to us and makes a real difference!
Please bring reading books every day! There aren't set days when each child reads, but we try to read as often as possible, so by making sure book bags are in school, your child won't miss any opportunities.

Have a look at some of the work we did in the beginning of the Spring Term:
Spring Term 1
Our topic for the first half term in Spring is 'Panic on the Titanic'. We will be learning lots but not just in Topic lessons, but in Numeracy, Literacy and many others too!
We have been lucky to have Sandra Gustafsson working with us this term, one day a week, as part of the Lead Creative Schools Project that is funded by the Arts Council for Wales. Sandra is a Performance Designer and Maker and has previously had experience creating 'Escape Room' type projects in other schools. The main focus of the project is problem solving and working collaboratively to solve challenging tasks.Sandra has created a range of puzzles and treasure hunt style tasks for the children, involving maths puzzles, secret codes and locked boxes! The children have also completed creative writing tasks and model making. They have created their own scale model characters and rooms. Photographs will be uploaded soon! As part of the Pip project, we will be inviting parents to the Titanic model making workshop. We will collect junk materials to use to create scale models of the Titanic. It would be fantastic to have as many parents and guardians as possible to work with their child to create the models together!
Have a look at some of the work we did in the Autumn Term:
Our topic for the rest of the Autumn term is 'World War 2'. We will be learning lots but not just in Topic lessons, but in Numeracy, Literacy and many others too!
If you have any books at home, or visit a library, then it would be great to share them with the class. We promise to take very good care of items brought in.
We have a trip to the Cardiff Story Museum in town to do a workshop about life during WWII. Look out for photographs from our visit on twitter! @BadenPowellPS
So far we have written newspapers, recounts, tested paper aeroplanes, parachutes and created Blitz art! You can see some examples of our work below.
Our topic for the Autumn term was 'Gwyliau' (Holidays)
We have been doing lots of work and challenging ourselves to use lots of past tenses and 3rd person sentences. Gwaith anodd!
